Gun Controls:

The citizens of America have an obsession with owning guns. They are very protective of their rights to own guns. Americans are always quick to scoff at anyone who tries to introduce measures aimed at controlling the ownership of these arms. Yet, it is a wonder why somebody would become defensive over something that is dangerous. The major argument of this paper is that gun control helps in promoting security.

With a strong gun control law, the rates of murder and crime will decrease across the country. These laws will make it hard for people to acquire these weapons, limiting the ability of criminals to use them. Currently it is very easy to acquire a gun. This makes it possible for people with criminal records to get and use them. England managed to reduce crime rates because it made it illegal for civilians to own guns.

Guns are also responsible for an increase in the accidental deaths in the United States. An individual might think that owning a dangerous substance such as a gun might make people to be careful. However, this is not the case for some people. Many people do not know how to store and safely use their weapons. This has made it possible for children to find their parents’ guns and accidentally shoot themselves, or their friends. Also, we are seeing a growing trend of school shootings. Teenagers are able to access their parents’ guns, and take them to school.

Regulation of gun ownership limits the right to self-defense. Citizens of United States have a right of defending themselves when attacked by criminals. It is difficult for an individual to protect himself, without a weapon. Therefore, it is not necessary to introduce gun control laws. It will lead to an increase in crime, as opposed to its reduction.

There is a need of introducing and implementing gun control laws. Reduction of accessibility to guns would reduce the rates of crime. Criminals will find it difficult to have an access to these weapons, hence limit their ability to commit a crime. These laws are successful in England, which is experiencing a low percentage of crime and murders. Therefore, the argument that gun controls will lead to an increase in crime is false, and misguided.v
